Volunteer with Unity in Community Food Distribution

Unity in Community Food Distribution

Monday, December 14 10 am – 2 pm

The “Unity in Our Community” Campaign is an initiative of Shaker Heights interfaith congregations, neighborhood groups, and local residents of the city to respond to emergency hunger and food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 crisis.  Join us to volunteer, while maintaining wellness, safety and social distancing protocols, to assist our neighbors in need. We are seeking volunteers!  If you are sick or immunocompromised, we ask that you forgo volunteering for this effort.  Volunteers must wear masks/face covering and gloves (such as a bandana, scarf, gardening gloves, work gloves, latex, etc.)

We need help with welcoming those who need assistance, collecting data from them, carrying food bags to their cars, and with home delivery.

HCC Honored for Refugee Support

We are delighted to be mentioned in the #40for40 Refugee and Immigration Ministries celebration! As a congregation, we have a long history of reaching out to our neighbors, near and far. There is so much work to be done. #loveyourneighbor #lovekindness #DoJustice #walkhumblywithGod

Both in its heritage & present,  Heights Christian Church, OH has offered a “Wall of Kindness” to its neighbors!!  DHMDisciples & DisciplesNews thank you for your hospitality thru the decades!!
Pictured here is the Wall of Kindness from Heights Christian Church, together with the Latvian Viburs family of refugees they assisted in 1949! The ministry of Heights CC in 1949 makes it one of the earliest images of our Disciples connections with refugees.
Even though this is the 40 year anniversary of the US Refugee Act of 1980, which established the processes of refugee resettlement and asylum which have guided our nation for the past four decades, the work of Heights CC demonstrates that Disciples were engaged in partnership with refugees since the years following the end of WWII. #ActionForRefugees #WeAreWelcomers #RefugeesWelcome

Clergy Statement

This statement was drafted by the Anti-Racism/Pro-Reconciliation Team of the Ohio Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and signed onto by nearly 60 Disciples clergy in Ohio! It is in support of #BlackLivesMatter and #DefundThePolice. Please take a moment to read and reflect.
